Congratulations to last week's Performance of the Week by Avery Bartlett and Kimani Rushing, our co-performers of the week.

With state this past weekend this list will included some of the best performances in the country. The 2 day state meet event started with class 1A/2A going on Friday and 3A/4A going on Saturday.  We saw great performances by athletes such as, Ransom Everglades Nati Sheppard, Hallandale’s Kimani Rushing, Brittany McGee of Admiral Farragut, Caitlin Collier of Bolles, and Chauncey Gardner of Cocoa. On Saturday we saw the girls from Miami Northwestern absolutely dominate the field with a new state meet record of 155 pts scored in the 3A event.

In 4A we saw the Dr. Phillips boys capture their first team title under the helm of Jorge Fleitas. We also witnessed saw some great individual performances by Oak Ridge’s Sharikka Barnett, American’s Lenysse Dyer, Chiles Avery Bartlett, Lake Brantley’s Sinclaire Johnson, and Ponte Vedra’s Nicole Greene. Help us determine the DyeStatFL performance of the week by choosing up to three of the nominees below.

Nati Sheppard Ransom Everglades, FL: The 2014 Class 2A Pole Vault state meet runner up, returned in 2015 with a vengeance. Not only did she win the meet by over a foot, she broke the previous state meet record of 12’ 10” with her 13’ vault followed by her 13’ 03” vault, a new Florida all-time record.

Brittany McGee Admiral Farragut, FL: In 2014, the junior from Admiral Farragut won 2 of the 3 finals she participated in. Accounting for 26 points, her team placed 4th with a 40 point total. In 2015, things were a little bit different. McGee qualified for, competed in, and won 4 events at the FHSAA 1A State Track and Field Championships becoming only the ninth Florida girl to win 4 events. McGee helped her team win a state title over Oak Hall, 76 to 67.

Avery Bartlett Chiles, FL: The defending 3A 800m state champion came up big for his Chiles team in their quest to defend their team title and hold off cross town rivals Leon and Lincoln. Bartlett started his day in the 4x800, helping them score 4 points as they finished 5th. He then came back to outkick Sukhi Khosla in the 1600m for the win in FL#1 4:12.86, and followed that up with another win in the 800m going 1:53.10 and also ran a leg on Chiles 4x400m relay team that finished 5th. Chiles won the meet 56-42 over runner up Leon High School and Bartlett had a “foot” in contributing 28 of those points.

Estero Girls 4x800m Relay, FL: Going into the 4x800 final, Miami Northwestern (MNW) was the runaway favorite in the event. Having run 9:12 at the Florida Relays, MNW was expected to beat Estero by over 12 seconds. During the race, Estero refused to let MNW run away with the event.  Estero’s last two legs were able to secure the win, beating MNW by 7 seconds 9:15.16 to 9:22.15.

Sinclaire Johnson Lake Brantley, FL: The junior from Lake Brantley high school entered the FHSAA 4A State Championships as the defending 800m and 1600m state champion. Going into the 1600m, Sinclaire was the second seed having lost to Kayley Delay in the regional meet. At state it was Sinclaire that got the upper hand, winning with a time of 4:59. She later came back to defend her title in the 800m. Through the first lap, Sinclaire went through 400m at 61 seconds in second place, she then dropped a 67 second lap for the win and a new state meet record of 2:08.71.

Nicole Greene Ponte Vedra, FL: Going into the 3A State meet, everyone knew the team race was for second place as Miami Northwestern had more athletes competing than any other team in the meet. For Ponte Vedra, they only had one athlete, Nicole Green the UNC signee, capable of scoring any points. Nicole not only scored points but won all three events she competed in. Being the queen of the jumps, Nicole won the High Jump, Long Jump, and Triple Jump bringing in 30 points for Ponte Vedra High School. With one athlete, Ponte Vedra was able to place third in the team hunt just ½ point behind runner-up Lakewood Ranch.

Chauncey Gardner Cocoa, FL: Being the top ranked sprinter going into the state meet is one thing, leaving the state meet with titles in hand is something completely different. Going into the 100m Chauncey was the top seed from the prelims with a 10.60. In the Finals Chauncey ran a very quick 10.38 with a 5.2 wind. He then came back to win the 200m with a 21.12.

Sharrika Barnett Oak Ridge, FL: This could have been the most competitive race of the night as it took a US #1 time to win. Barnett had run 53.32 at the Bob Hayes Classic and was the #1 ranked 400m runner in the country coming into the state meet. As expected, Barnett was able to win the race with a US #1 and a FL #5 all time 52.67. Following closely behind in second was Lenysse Dyer who finished with a US #2 and FL #8 All time 53.15.

Kimani Rushing Hallandale, FL: The 2A state meet was destined to be a nailbiter from the start as Hallandale, Ransom Everglades, and Bolles were supposed to be in a tight battle for the team championship. Unfortunately for Bolles and Ransom, Hallandale had a major weapon in Kimani. Competing in 4 events, she was able to walk away with wins in the 100m Hurdles, the 300m Hurdles, the Triple Jump, and was runner up in the Long Jump. Scoring 38 points, Kimani helped her team run away with the title as Hallandale scored 105 points to Bolles’ 83.5 points.
